7 Questions and Answers About Seafields at Kiawah Island

Lowcountry Living: Discover Everything You Need to Know About Our Luxury Life Plan Community

Life Plan Communities (LPCs), also known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), are a great option for many people as they enter their retirement years. However, there are many questions that can arise during the process that leave people wondering where to begin.

To help you better understand our community and determine if it may be a good fit for your lifestyle, we answered a list of the top questions we get asked by those interested in joining our community. Let’s take a look!

Question #1: What is the main advantage to a Life Plan Community?

Answer:

For many people, Life Plan Communities (LPCs) take the stress out of everyday life, offering a lifestyle that is second to none. The services that residents are offered within the community take the hassle out of everyday life.

In addition to providing a maintenance-free lifestyle, LPCs provide rich opportunities for learning, growth, and wellness. Seafields offers a wide range of luxury amenities, like a state-of-the-art fitness center, pool, and fine dining venues, which foster both the physical and mental well-being of our members, as well as provide a sense of community among residents.

Question #2: What healthcare services are available at Seafields?

Answer:

One of the most significant benefits of CCRC communities is that they offer a “continuum of care” for their residents. Here at Seafields, we provide residents with all levels of healthcare, which includes assisted living, an in-house wellness clinic, and access to memory care and skilled nursing care nearby. With these services, our residents can live independently in their own homes or apartments but still have the peace of mind of knowing that if they require more assistance or skilled nursing care, it is readily available.

Additionally, the MUSC Health Sea Islands Medical Pavilion will be located steps away from Seafields. With 24/7 emergency treatment, this state-of-the-art facility will expand the healthcare services available to members of the community.

Question #3: What is the best age to enter Seafields Life Plan Community?

Answer:

For those who are interested in joining the community, it is important to note that you must be 62 years or older on the date of closing your contract.

Question #4: What are the three basic types of contracts for Life Plan Communities?

Answer:

There are three main types of contracts for LPC and CCRC communities –– Type A, Type B, and Type C. With Type A contracts, fees include housing, residential services, amenities, and health-related services. Essentially, residents are prepaying for specific healthcare services that they may need in the future, thus offering more predictable future costs.

The second type of contract is Type B or a modified Lifecare contract version with a specified amount of healthcare services. In our CCRC community, we offer a Type B contract with which customers can enjoy a 40 percent lifetime discount off the market rate for Assisted Living, after 90 days, for free. If Skilled Nursing is desired, there is a 20 percent discount off the market private pay rate for 365 days, after 30 days, for free.

Type C contracts on the other hand, only require residents to pay once the services are required, which can lead to much higher prices in the long run.

Question #5: Is there a waitlist for Seafields?

Answer:

With so many exciting amenities and the charm of the Lowcountry right outside your front door, Seafields is a coveted living experience many want to enjoy. Because of this, we recommend reserving your spot early as there are only 90 independent living residences available in our community. By reserving early, you will ensure you get to choose the exact living option you want before they are all occupied. We are currently taking reservations for those who are interested, so contact our team to start the process.

Question #6: How close is Seafields to Kiawah Island?

Answer:

Seafields is centrally located in the Town of Kiawah Island, between Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. In just a five-minute drive, you can be on Kiawah Island, taking in the natural beauty of the maritime forests, marshes, sand dunes, and pristine beaches. Or, if shopping is what you’re looking for, Freshfields Village is conveniently located adjacent to Seafields, offering some of the best shopping, dining, and service options in the area. Additionally, Seafields is only a short drive from downtown Charleston, offering even more ways to enjoy the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Question #7: How large are the apartments and how many square feet do they have?

Answer:

At Seafields, our LPC offers independent living, with a wide range of apartments and floor plan options, along with assisted living options that offer peace of mind if health needs change. Our independent living options range from just under 1,000 square feet to nearly 3,000 square feet –– giving you the option to choose the size that fits your wants and needs.
