Seafields at Kiawah Island Announces Initial Slate of Luxury Amenities

Kiawah’s Only 62+ Life Plan Community Embraces Luxury Amenities, Curated Programming, and High-Level Design

KIAWAH ISLAND S.C.  |  November 10, 2021

Seafields at Kiawah Island (“Seafields”), the first 62+ Luxury Life Plan Community at the renowned resort island, has announced their initial slate of luxury amenities and programming. Driven by the demand for elevated senior housing and healthcare in sought-after areas, the $180M facility will feature immersive experiences, exclusive partnerships, distinctively spacious floor plans, high-end amenities, and a first of its kind in-house medical clinic operated by the Medical University of South Carolina (“MUSC Health”). Boasting enviable proximity to Charleston, the Lowcountry’s best beaches – and walking distance to Freshfields, the stylish outdoor pedestrian village offering some of the areas best-loved shopping and culinary destinations – Seafields reimagines the scope of luxury retirement living in an amenity-rich environment. Reservations for all units are now available through Kiawah Island Real Estate, the sole real estate brokerage with offices on Kiawah Island, exclusively focused on Kiawah Island properties. There are currently 35 units reserved and site work is underway. Construction for Seafields is due to be completed Summer/Fall 2024.

Supported by a digital-first mindset utilizing smart technology to optimize all processes, the 91 luxury one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences, as well as 16 assisted living residences and continuing care services, will surround refined public spaces meant to foster a strong sense of camaraderie among the residents. Helmed by LS3P, a premier Southeastern design firm known for creating architecture that enriches communities, Seafields’ common areas will feature a polished aesthetic utilizing design principles that promote healthy lifestyles. The spacious residential units – some as large as 3,000 square feet – will allow residents to transition into a home that still feels sizable but without the upkeep. Generous private verandas, a luxury feature rarely seen in senior living residences, offer outdoor living and entertaining options with views of the beautiful landscape no matter where a unit is in the building. The carefully imagined structure will be positioned to capture the full range of light throughout the day, from sunrise to sunset, further connecting Seafields to the surrounding Lowcountry vistas.

The meticulously thought-out interior design and architectural elements will be complemented by best-in-class amenities and services. Led by an experienced lifestyle director, Seafields’ diverse range of offerings will be curated to reflect the interests of the resident body and the calendar will typically reflect 5 – 8 daily activities. The 62+ Life Plan Community was conceived to support the independence of its residents while pursuing their interests within a communal framework which provides dedicated spaces to gather and encourages connections amongst residents with shared interests. United in purpose – to improve longevity, experience, and quality of life and serve as a bridge between community spaces and the home – the wellness-focused programs at Seafields will be designed to fit each lifestyle and life stage and combat isolation as loneliness can impact life expectancy.

Some of the luxury amenities will include a 24-hour concierge to assist residents with transportation and valet services, a superior culinary and wine program with multiple dining and social venues, library with tech bar, auditorium, communal living room, pet-friendly services. Technogym-designed fitness center, yoga studio, spa, resort-style saltwater pool, salon, and theater. The incredible attention to detail paid to the best-in-class amenities will be notable throughout the facility, evident in the state-of-the-art theater by Paradise Theater, the Los Angeles based designer of premier private cinemas worldwide.

This unique community will offer rarefied amenities with Kiawah’s natural beauty as the backdrop, along with Charleston’s rich cultural offerings, less than an hour’s drive away,” said Richard Ackerman, Managing Partner, Big Rock Partners, the developer of the property.

Conceived to establish meaningful connections to the outdoors and the greater Lowcountry community, Seafields is within walking distance of Freshfields Village, the charming outdoor shopping center home to the area’s most-popular boutiques and restaurants which offers over 60 events per year including vintage car shows, Shag Nights on the Dock, outdoor concerts and movies, pet-focused activities, and a seasonal Farmer’s Market. Kiawah Island’s 10 miles of pristine beach and over 30 miles of paved bike trails are easily accessed, and residents will be given opportunities to participate in philanthropic and civic efforts which will actively engage with, and benefit, local communities.

Widely regarded as the cultural capital of the South, Charleston was named the No. 1 city in the United States in 2021 by Travel + Leisure readers for the ninth year in a row. Additionally, it is the only American city to land on the magazine’s list of the best cities in the world. Charleston was also named the best small city in the U.S. for ten consecutive years, according to Condé Nast Traveler. Kiawah Island has been ranked as one of the top 10 islands in the United States by both Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler readers for eight consecutive years. Taking advantage of its proximity to this world class city, Seafields will partner with renown local art and cultural institutions to develop robust programming for residents.

Given Seafields’ sought-after location – surrounded by some of the Lowcountry’s most coveted beaches, rivers, and marshes – additional recreational options will include boating partnerships at the nearby Bohicket Marina as well as equestrian opportunities with local equestrian centers. Memberships at The Governor’s Club at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (site of the 2021 PGA Championship) can be obtained dependent upon availability, which give residents year-round access to their five renowned courses, club amenities, exclusive benefits, discounts, private events, and tournaments.

The MUSC Health clinic at Seafields will utilize the most advanced current technologies as well as offer medical and therapeutic services to residents. And in the fall of 2023, the Sea Islands freestanding Emergency Department – the result of a 5+ year venture between Kiawah Partners and MUSC Health – will open right down the road from Seafields providing 24/7 lifesaving care in its emergency department with trauma rooms, an onsite lab, four exam rooms, imaging technology, and a helipad for the fastest possible transfers.
